This view of Pueblo Bonito is looking south from the debris field of Threatening Rock. You can see how the debris breached the back wall of the great house.

It is believed that based on the elaborate structures at the base of Threatening Rock, that the Chacoans conducted religious ceremonies at the base of the rock, possibly to ward off the destruction of the great house. The mounds and structures around Threatening Rock were also intended to support the rock.
