The ruins of Pueblo Bonito can be seen at the foot of Threatening Rock. Most of Threatening Rock collapsed onto the back part of Pueblo Bonito in 1941, destroying part of the rear wall of the great house. You can see the debris of Threatening Rock between the great house and the remaining standing section of the rock.

Pueblo Bonito appears to have been one of the principle great houses in Chaco Canyon, and it appears that its chosen site below Threatening Rock was deliberate. Threatening Rock played an important role in the ceremonial life of the Chacoan culture. The Anasazi participated in occasional deliberate ritual destructions of pottery and other artifacts, and the choice of this site under Threatening Rock may have been a part of their destruction rituals.
