Fajada Butte stands at the southeastern entrance to Chaco Canyon, and the entrance to the National Historical Park. On top of Fajada Butte, inaccessible to visitors, is the Sun Daggers Calendar, which marks the passages of the seasons via shafts of sunlight and moonlight which traverses a coiled snake. Fajada Butte seems to have served as one of the reference points for the arrangement of the Chacoan pueblos.
